The son of a mechanic in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh has brought laurels to the country in America. Mahammad Shadab, son of a mechanic, who went to America last year through scholarship has topped high school. “Last year, I received the Kennedy-Lugar youth exchange scholarship worth Rs 20 lakh from the US government. After this, I went to the US to pursue my high school education, ” said Shadab. Out of 800 students, Shadab was selected as ‘Student of the Month at his school’. “It was an achievement for me to be awarded this tag. I have worked really hard to top the high school,” he stated on his achievement.
He further said “The situation at my house is not good. I wish to help my dad and mom and make them really feel proud. I’m grateful to the Indian authorities for making me the flag-bearer in one other county and selecting me for this scholarship.”
Shadab’s father, Arshad Noor, who has laboured as a motor mechanic for the past 25 years said, “We had sent him to the US for his education and I am happy that he topped at the school.” On being asked about his son, Arshad said, “I want my son to become an IAS officer and serve the country.” But Shadab thinks otherwise and has expressed the desire to work at the United Nations as a human rights officer. “I wish to work on the UN as a human rights officer,” stated Shadab.

What is the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study Program?
The US Department of State established the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program in October 2002 in recognition of the importance of youth exchange as a key component to build bridges between citizens of the US and other countries around the world. The program is funded by the US Department of State provides scholarships for high school students from countries with significant Muslim populations to attend high school in the US, live with an American host family, and serve as “youth ambassadors” for their home countries.
