The central government issued new guidelines for lockdown 5 which is slated to begin from Monday, June 1. As per the new guidelines, activities outside containment zones have been allowed to resume in a phased manner. According to the guidelines, strict restrictions are imposed on movement in containment areas to prevent further spread of the virus. The current phase of relaxation will have an economic focus.

Guidelines for phased re-opening

Phase I: Activities allowed outside the containment zones from June 8 –

  • Religious places and places of worship for the public.
  • Hotels, restaurants, other hospitality services.
  • Shopping Malls

Phase II: Schools, colleges, educational/training/coaching institutions etc, will be opened after consultations with States and Union Territories (UT).

Phase III: Dates for the opening of the above activities will be decided based on an assessment of the situation.

  • International air travel of passengers except as permitted by MHA.
  • Operation of metro rail.
  • Cinema halls, gymnasiums, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars and auditoriums.
  • Social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions, and other large congregations.

Movements of all individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 9 pm and 5 am throughout the country except for essential activities. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be framed by the government after discussion with the ministries, departments and stakeholders to ensure social distancing and other measures to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.
