Dreams do turn into reality and the only way for it to happen is to keep working hard towards your goal and be hopeful. Meet Manya Singh, a rickshaw driver’s daughter who has been crowned VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 – runner-up at the recently concluded beauty pageant in Mumbai. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Manya’s childhood was filled with hardships where she has even gone without food or proper sleep for days. Manya had earlier opened up about the struggles she faced on the road to success, saying that she hoped to inspire others by using the platform provided by Miss India to talk about her journey.
The beauty queen rode an autorickshaw to her alma mater on Tuesday, her father in the driver’s seat and her mother holding her hand sitting at the back, a family that dared to dream big and gave it their all to make it come true. Miss India 2020 runner-up Manya Singh’s father Omprakash led the 18-vehicle strong autorickshaw rally for the one-kilometre-long stretch, from the end of Thakur village area to her college, the Thakur College of Science and Commerce, the humble three-wheeler getting pride of place in the celebration of her win.
From 4th standard till 10th, her parents were only able to afford exam fees at Lohia Inter College, Sahwa, and at one point, her mother was forced to sell her anklet to get her admission. “Miss India wasn’t my childhood dream. But I was sure I didn’t want to be a doctor or an engineer. That would have made my parents happy but I didn’t want a simple life. I wanted some ‘masala’,” she said.
