India is trying its level best to support the friendly neighbors to combat COVID-19. On Saturday, India sent a team of 15 medical staff consisting of a doctor, healthcare professionals, and medical equipment to Kuwait. The team arrived with the rapid response in Kuwait through India Air Force’s C-130 aircraft.

In a statement, the Indian Foreign Ministry said, Kuwaiti government requested India to send a bunch of medical staff for assistance.

The medical team of India will stay in Kuwait for two weeks. In this duration, they will provide medical assistance in testing and treatment of the infected patients. They will also train their personnel.

When the team reached Kuwait, a conversation followed on a phone call between Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, in which both the leaders discussed the seriousness of the pandemic and agreed on the fact that they need a coordinated effort against the global pandemic, said Ministry of External Affairs.

“There is a strong relationship between India and Kuwait based on historical, cultural, economic and people-to-people-contacts. India has the largest group of Kuwait nationals. The population of Kuwait nationals in India is around ten lakh. India is helping out Kuwait in crisis. The friendly neighborhood further complements its efforts to fight the menace effectively,” the statement added.

Currently, India is exporting hydroxychloroquine to friendly neighbors US, Brazil, Germany, Spain, and Bahrain. India also added the consignment of the anti-malarial drug to countries in its immediate neighborhood like Afghanistan, Maldives, and Seychelles. The nation is also helping with the antipyretic drug, paracetamol, to the UK.

The total number of COVID-19 patients hit 1,154 on April 12. This includes 1 death and 133 patients are reported to have recovered.
