On 3rd April at 9 AM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation for the third time amid a 21-days nationwide lockdown with a video message. In the video, PM Modi gives the message to the 130 crore Indians to show up in the balconies and gates once again on 5th April at 9 PM without breaking social distancing, to display 130 crore Indians strength in the fight against coronavirus. PM Modi urges people to switch off the lights and stand at the gates or balconies to light diyas or candles or torches or mobile flashlights for 9 minutes this Sunday.
“When 130 crore Indians will come together, it will give each of us the strength to fight, as well as the confidence to win, in this hour of crisis. If we will light one diya each, then we will realize the power of the light amid the darkness,” says PM Modi.
“During this event, no one is supposed to break the social distancing and no one will gather on the streets. The people should participate from the gates and balconies only,” he also added.
One day before addressing the nation PM Modi tweeted on twitter –

PM Modi started his address by appreciating the discipline of the people till the ninth day of lockdown. The people of India have set an example of discipline and service was unprecedented. The way on March 22, we said thanks to our frontline soldiers fighting against coronavirus was appreciated across the world. Countries around the world are adopting the concept.
He also added, when the millions of people are sitting in their homes, there must be someone who must be thinking how will they fight alone in this battle against COVID-19. We are not at all alone. This is the power of 130 crore people. The awareness in the people gives us motivation, gives us a goal and gives us the energy to achieve them. He said, amidst the darkness caused because of coronavirus pandemic, we need to be hopeful and should constantly pursue to reach towards the light of hope within us.
The government, public, and administration are making commendable efforts to manage the situation as best as possible. The way India expressed gratitude to all the fighting frontline soldiers against the Coronavirus on Sunday 22nd March, has today become an example for all countries. Many countries are following it now.
He added whether it is Janta curfew, ringing bells, clapping hands or beating plates; the efforts of all have made the nation realize its strength in the time of crisis. It has deepened the belief that the nation can unite as one in the battle against the Corona pandemic.
At this time, when crores of people of this country are supporting 21-days lockdown and are confined to their homes, it is quite natural for anyone to ask a question that what they can add to this nation just by themselves. People may also be worried about how they are going to fight such a big battle against coronavirus on their own. Many will be curious to know about how many days they will have to spend like this.
PM Modi said that none of us is alone. The strength and power of 130 crore Indians are with us, it is the strength of each one of us. It is needed by our country people, to experience the greatness, majesty, and divinity of this collective strength.
He further added, in our country, the citizenry is considered a demonstration of God itself. Therefore, when the nation is fighting such a huge battle against coronavirus, one should experience this collective superpower from time to time. The experience of collective strength will boost our morale, gives us the right direction and clarity, a common aim as well as the energy to achieve it.
Amid the darkness of the Corona pandemic, we must continuously look towards light and hope within us. We must continuously make efforts to do something for our poor brothers and sisters. The darkness and uncertainty emerging from the crisis must be ended, by progressing towards the light and certainty. We must defeat the deep darkness of the corona pandemic, by spreading the light of hope and positive thoughts in all four directions.
And that is why, this Sunday, on the 5th of April, we must come together again and should challenge the darkness of the corona crisis, introducing it to the power of light. On this 5th of April, we must show the superpower of 130 crore Indians.
He further said, on the 5th of April, on Sunday, I want 9 minutes from all you, at 9 PM. On the 5th of April, at 9 PM, turn off all the lights in your homes; stand at your gates, doors or in your balconies, and light candles or diyas, torches or mobile flashlights for 9 minutes.
At that time, we will turn off all the lights of our homes, and will lit Diyas in all directions. We will then experience the superpower of light. Clearly focusing on the common purpose we are all fighting for. In that light, shine and radiance, let us clear negative thoughts in our minds that we are alone. No one is alone! 130 crore Indians are fighting together with the same crisis!
He added, that no one must assemble or gather anywhere while participating in this program. Please do not go out on to the roads, streets or your localities, do it at the gates or balconies of your own homes. One must never cross the ‘Lakshman Rekha’ of Social Distancing. Social Distancing should not be violated under any circumstances. This is the only thing which will break the chain of Coronavirus.
So, on the 5th of April at 9 PM. Sit in peace for some time and think about Maa Bharati, picture the faces of 130 crore Indians. Experience the collective superpower of 130 crore Indians. This will give us the strength and the confidence to win, in this hour of crisis.
It has been said here that –
Utsaho Balwaan Arya,
Na Asti Utsaah Param Balam |
Sah Utsahasaya Lokeshu,
Na Kinchit Api Durlabham ||”
There is no greater power in the world than our passion and our spirit. That there is nothing in the world that we cannot achieve based on this strength. Come, let us come together again and defeat this Corona virus, and make India victorious. Thank you very much!
